The Assistant General Counsel (“AGC”) will provide legal advice and guidance regarding a wide range of complex business matters, providing high quality, business focused legal support for Ferguson Enterprises, a national distributor listed on the NYSE and currently #146 on the Fortune 500.
The AGC provides legal direction and leadership to management teams to assist in the development and growth of business consistent with overall company strategy and directive. This role supports multiple customer groups.
The AGC will operate as a true generalist, having a wide scope of responsibility across many practice areas, including commercial contracts, litigation, corporate governance, and privacy. The AGC should have the ability to navigate legal subject areas and offer practical advice on various legal issues.
Location:
This role is approved to be either Remote within the United States or Hybrid out of Ferguson's corporate offices in Newport News, VA, in accordance with company policy.
Responsibilities:
Negotiate, draft, review and support various commercial transactions, including sales and vendor agreements.
Assist in the establishment, implementation, and communication of formal policies, processes and procedures with respect to contract lifecycle management. Familiarity with Icertis useful but not required.
Stay on top of applicable legal developments, legislation and regulations that impact activities and perform industry research on legal matters related to the specific products and suppliers.
Coordinate with legal/risk management counsel in litigation matters and advise business owners in strategy and settlement negotiations.
Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and legal colleagues to solve problems, build partnerships, and close deals efficiently, ensure applicability and sufficiency of existing practices (e.g. Compliance, Government Contracts, Employment, etc.) and assist with training activities relating to these practices.
Identify issues and provide advice and counsel regarding antitrust/competition law, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, environmental, regulatory and other compliance considerations as they may impact sourcing activity.
Provide the business groups with outstanding internal customer service.
Willingness to assume additional responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications:
Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school; Admitted to practice and in good standing with at least one U.S. State Bar.
Minimum 2+ years of post-admission legal experience in a law firm and/or in-house counsel preferred.
Experience in domestic contract drafting and negotiation, including experience and familiarity with the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) and U.N. Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods.
Demonstrated ability to resolve legal issues quickly and effectively to reach fair and reasonable results.
Ability to work collaboratively with peers and internal clients across a global organization as well as independently (including remotely).
Proven sound business judgment, including the ability to anticipate and analyze impact and consequences of decisions/initiatives and recommendations by providing strategic legal advice and aligning legal strategies with business goals.
Excellent oral, written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate with at all levels of the organization.
Effective time management and organizational skills.
High level of motivation and a strong work ethic.
Ability to lead more than one initiative at once.

Estimated Ranges displayed are Monthly for Salaried roles OR Hourly for all other roles.
