About The Role:

We’re hiring our first Head of Legal to build and lead the legal function at ShopMy. You’ll be the company’s top legal authority, reporting into the executive team and working cross-functionally to ensure we scale responsibly, compliantly, and strategically.

This is a rare opportunity to join at a high-growth moment and architect a best-in-class legal function from the ground up—laying the groundwork for future growth, compliance, and governance as we scale toward major milestones, including potential public readiness.

This role will oversee legal and compliance, excluding risk, and will build a legal team over time.

Your Impact to The Role:

• Strategic Legal Leadership
• Act as the company's most senior legal voice, advising the CEO, President, and leadership team on legal strategy and implications
• Build scalable legal infrastructure to support hypergrowth across all business lines
• Commercial & Product Counsel
• Own legal review and negotiation for all key contracts (SaaS agreements, influencer deals, vendor contracts, etc.)
• Provide legal input on product features, terms of service, and monetization strategies
• Corporate & Governance
• Support investor relations, board governance, equity matters, and corporate structure
• Prepare us for future financing rounds and IPO readiness in the coming years
• Compliance & Regulatory
• Own compliance with data privacy laws (CCPA, GDPR), advertising regulations (FTC, influencer disclosure), and consumer protection
• Draft and implement internal policies in partnership with People, Finance, and Operations
• Employment & IP Support
• Advise on employment law and workplace policies, particularly in NY and CA
• Partner with marketing and product to manage IP strategy (trademark, copyright, licensing)
• Build and Scale the Legal Function
• Establish scalable processes for contract management, compliance tracking, and legal operations
• Hire and lead legal team members over time

What We Are Looking For:

• JD from a top-tier law school; active bar license (NY preferred)
• 8+ years of legal experience, with a mix of top-tier law firm and in-house startup experience
• Expertise across commercial contracts, compliance, employment, and IP
• Strong familiarity with consumer tech, SaaS, marketplaces, and/or affiliate businesses
• Clear communicator with strong judgment and business acumen
• Experience supporting fast-paced, high-growth companies
• Comfort with ambiguity and a builder’s mindset

Bonus Points: 

• Experience working with creator platforms, e-commerce, or advertising/marketing law
• Exposure to IPO readiness or public company transitions
• Familiarity with international compliance issues or cross-border contract matters
• Past experience managing or building a legal team
