Responsibilities:

Provide Legal Guidance: Advise staff on

  • Title Clearance: Ensuring properties have clear titles (no legal issues like liens or disputes).
  • Survey Issues: Addressing problems with property boundaries or surveys.
  • Proformas and Endorsements: Preparing or reviewing documents related to title insurance policies.
  • FinCEN Regulations: Ensuring compliance with federal regulations, such as those from the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, to prevent fraud or money laundering in real estate.
  • Title Bills: Handling billing related to title services. These efforts aim to ensure smooth and legally sound real estate closings.

Work with the underwriting team to:

  • Assess risks in title insurance transactions.
  • Develop creative solutions to insure complex deals (e.g., properties with legal complications).
  1. Review Underwriting Concerns: Analyze risks versus benefits to decide whether to insure certain transactions.
  2. Ensure Compliance: Stay updated on state-specific real estate regulations (especially New Yorkโ€™s) to ensure the company follows all legal requirements.
  3. Assist with Transactions: Help with funding real estate deals and preparing Settlement Statements (documents detailing the financial aspects of a closing).



Qualifications:


  • A Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • A New York law license (admitted to the New York State Bar).
  • Relevant experience in real estate law or title insurance (the exact years of experience arenโ€™t specified in the posting, but typically, such roles require 3โ€“7 years).
  • Strong knowledge of: Title insurance: Understanding how to issue and manage title insurance policies.
  • Underwriting: Evaluating risks in real estate transactions.
